Sesame Halva Beverage

Vegan Halva Beverage

Last month while in Seoul my brother found a cafe that was focused on sesame oil and they served us a very unique sesame latte accompanied by a Yakgwa which are mostly served in festivities and how am I not going to like it if it is deep fried and soaked in honey! The best part of it is that it was so satisfying and quite sweet (in a good way) that one cookie was shared with my mom and that was perfect. Also, it has the name Halva in it because it has exactly the same flavor as this sweet and dense Middle Eastern confection, often made out of tahini (sesame paste) but you can also find them made with other nut butters.

If you have come across my blog before you will know by now that most of my recipes are born out of memories and moments I have shared with loved ones and this one of course is born out that luscious sesame latte we had with my brother and mom back in South Korea.

Think pudding meets custard, creamy **but** with quite a versatility! you can thin it out by adding a tad more milk and serve it iced and add an espresso shot (or two!), serve it as a pure creamy dessert with a side of dark chocolate or simply as a warm beverage; now you see what I did here? it’s is sort of like when you go to the store and it says “buy 3 for the price of 1” but this one is even better because you can serve it as dessert at your dinner guests, the next morning you can add it as a creamer to your coffee and/or have it as a refreshing beverage or iced coffee later in the day so I really hope you enjoy this recipe and share it with others.

Sesame Halva Beverage

Makes: 3 servings

Prep time:

Cook time:

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup silken tofu
  • 1 cup coconut milk, full fat
  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 ½ Tbsp maple syrup

Instructions:
  1. Most likely we are all using canned full fat coconut milk so make sure you shake thoroulgy so all the fat and water is well incorporated before measuring out
  2. In a blender put all the ingredients together and blend up until fully creamy
  3. If you are serving it as a dessert in a cup or ramekin leave it as it is but if you would like to use it for an iced beverage thin add a bit more coconut milk or if you would like to use it as a coffee creamer add a little less than you would for your iced beverage
  4. And there you have it a one step dessert that will let you share and keep that gathering going!
